General Sessions / Common Pleas Court
General Sessions Court is commonly referred to as "Criminal Court". This court consists of Guilty Pleas and Jury Trials, involving crimes such as: Drugs, Burglary, Murder, Criminal Sexual Conduct, DUI 3rd or more, DUS 3rd or more, Failure to Stop for Blue Light, Assault and Battery 1st / 2nd Degree, Robbery, etc. General Sessions Court is usually held for 2 weeks every 3 months. Edgefield County is in the 11th Judicial Circuit, consisting of Edgefield, Saluda, McCormick and Lexington Counties.

Common Pleas Court is commonly referred to as "Civil Court". Cases in CP Court exceed the monetary amount that can be held in Magistrate Court. Cases can be Non-Jury or Jury. Common cases consist of: Vehicle / Injury, Credit Card default, Mortgage Defaults, Magistrate Appeals, Probate Appeals, Minor Settlements, Monetary Judgements, etc. Common Pleas Court is held for 1 week every 3 months.
